Lantor Soric® now available in EuCIA’s Eco Impact Calculator

The European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA) announces the addition of new data to its Eco Calculator, the online tool which enables composites companies to calculate the environmental impact associated with the production of their products.

Since the January 2018 update of the Eco Impact Calculator by EuCIA laminates containing core mats can be modelled. Core mat has become the industry term for volumized non-woven core materials based on the highly successful Coremat®, which was first introduced to the market by Lantor BV in 1973.

Lantor front runner in composites industry

The data on core mat in this update are derived from detailed information on the sourcing and production of Soric® TF and Soric® XF, which are 21st century incarnations of Coremat® and which are suitable for closed mould processes. The information is gathered by the composites team of Lantor BV and processed by the Climate Change & Sustainability Services team of Ernst & Young Accountants LLP (EY).

With this inclusion Lantor re-emphasizes its role as a front runner in the composites industry. Lantor is the first commercial party to have actively pursued inclusion of its products in the Eco Impact Calculator.

Alexander van der Flier, Manager Climate Change & Sustainability Services at EY says “The aim of the EuCIA Eco Calculator is to provide an easy to use tool with accurate and reliable information about the eco impact of composite products. This enables the composite sector to calculate the impact of their products. In the recent update of the tool we have been able to add several important thermoplastic processes as well as information about volumized non-woven core materials. We are proud to have added data from Lantor to the Eco Calculator and we would like to invite all companies, who would like their data included in the tool as well, to please contact Julie Leroy of EuCIA or Alexander van der Flier from EY

Reduction of environmental impact

Lantor is able to provide EY with detailed information because of long running and ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of Lantor products. This includes recording and improving performance in fields like renewable energy, energy consumption, waste, recycling and material sourcing.

Martin den Ottolander, Manager Operations at Lantor BV: “Lantor has been using renewable energy for years. In addition, Lantor joined a collective initiative within the municipality of Veenendaal to install solar panels. A project is also active to make use of recycled fiber made from drinking bottles. In 2017 a new, high efficiency and low power steam boiler is installed which provides the required heat on our production lines. In the past year a large part of the production hall lighting is replaced with LED lighting. Our transporters are required to use trucks complying with euro 5 or euro 6 emission standards for the transport of our goods and new company cars have a hybrid drive.”

Lantor is very happy to include the environmental data produced by the Eco Impact Calculator to its services for customers. In addition to savings in weight, cost, production time and waste now the savings on the environment, which can be achieved with Lantor core materials, are supported with publicly available data.
